this FRIDAY, 5th September IS SPIRIT DAY!
English LANGUAGE ARTS
This week in English we have continued to focus on golden sentences - ask your child to explain the golden sentence rules! The children have been revising their initial letter sounds in phonics and are now moving towards diagraphs (2 letters that hold hands to make one sound e.g. 'ch' 'th' etc'). As well as this the children have begun to look at vowels and consonants, using this knowledge to construct words adhering to basic spelling patterns.
In reading each group has had a focus on decoding, which looks at different strategies for reading unknown words that can be broken down phonetically. The children have continued to show that the class books are treasures and are really taking good care of our class library. Grade One will visit the school library again on Friday when they can return and change their books so please ensure they have their books.

maths
This week we are revising counting and number bonds to 10 through using and applying games which the children are enjoying. We have been working with numberlines, looking at how a numberline can help us in maths, the children had some fantastic ideas! Grade One have also been adding using a numberline and they are increasing their confidence in making the correct amount of jumps to get to an answer. This concept has also been reinforced using games and some of the children are now moving towards using a numberline to help solve missing number addition - amazing right?
