BUCKET FILLING![]() Some of you may have heard your children talking about buckets and filling and dipping from them and thinking...."What is Mrs. Brown teaching them???" Bucket Filling is the character education and bully prevention program that I will be using in the Kinder classroom to help your children learn to be good people. Believe it or not, young children need to learn how to be kind. The concept is that each of us has an invisible bucket. It is constantly emptied or filled depending on what others say or do to us. When our buckets are full we feel great! When it is empty we feel awful. A person can be a bucket filler or a bucket dipper. The way to fill a bucket is to be kind to someone. A smile is an excellent way to fill a bucket and it makes you happy. And when you fill someone else's bucket you fill your own. On the other hand, an unkind-type person can dip into your bucket and then you feel sad-but he feels sad too. They not only dipped into your bucket, but emptied their own as well. What a concept we can teach little kids!
You will learn more about "Bucket Filling" and how we will use it in the kindergarten classroom when you come to the "Meet the Teacher Night" on Thursday 29th August. However, children are beginning to learn that they can fill their teacher's bucket when they follow the classroom rules! The students all participated in picking the classroom rules since they are the ones that have to follow them. The rules were put up on a big poster and all the students signed their name to promise to do our best. When the whole class works together as Bucket Fillers and spell the word SUPER, they get a token towards filling up the class bucket. |
