Our morning routines in PreK-4 are full of choice and learning through play. Over the past two weeks, students have practiced finding their cubby, putting their things away, and signing in on our class sign in sheet. After finishing these two jobs, the PreK4s can go to a center of their choice--with friends or independently, to build, play, explore and create. They have built amazing structures and painted some very interesting creations! Here are a few photos of the students in action during our first block of the day. Enjoy!
We had a great first day in PreK4 today! Everyone worked and played so well together; there were some happy reunions between friends, and some new budding friendships in the making!
In language we read a sweet book called The Kissing Hand. The story is about a little racoon who doesn't want to go to school because he is worried he will miss his Mommy too much. The Mommy racoon gives him a great idea---she kisses his little hand and tells him to press it softly against his cheek to remember her while he is at school. The little racoon loves his Mommy's idea and decides to kiss her too. He is able to happily join his friends at school. Your kids loved this book and definitely missed you all. They also made some kissing hand art of their own and shared their feelings about the first day of school.
In math, we learned how to work with one of our math resources, the pattern blocks. The students loved matching shapes together on the mats and felt proud when they completed their designs. Here are a few pictures of their time exploring with pattern blocks.
We had lots of fun on the playground and singing songs together. I look forward to the year ahead!
Wow! It's hard to believe that it's that time of year again--back to school! Teachers have been back at work over the last week but were are missing the most important part--the heart of the school--your amazing children.
Here is some information that might help you and your child to settle in nicely on Monday morning. I can't wait to see everyone.
* Please arrive shortly before 8:00 am so that everyone has plenty of time to settle in and check out their new surroundings :).
*Find out where your child's cubby is located outside of the classroom and leave his or her backpack there.
*Please leave your child's labelled school supplies on the PreK4 table in the gazebo (just outside the classroom). Ms. Eva and I will later collect all of the supplies and organize them in the room. Thank you in advance for writing your child's name on their belongings. This helps to make sure that everyone has all that they need for the year.
* At drop off time, please introduce your child to me and give your child a big hug or goodbye; assure them that they will have a great day. Your trust and confidence in leaving them with their teachers will help them to develop that same trust and confidence.
* Ensure your child has a snack for 2pm. If your child eats food from the cafeteria, their morning snack and lunch will be provided. However, the last snack of the day is sent from home. Lunches can be stored in the PreK refrigerator.
*Water bottles can be stored in the plastic bin just inside the classroom door. You can bring your child's water bottle home every afternoon or leave them until Friday.
Have a great first day off, families! I look forward to working together with you this year for your child's education.
