national honor society
"The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921."
NHS Paints Project
Las Americas Kitchen

The National Honor Society has continued their efforts for Proyecto Las Américas, a school for local Haitian youth. The student members of NHS have been working alongside Robert Hildreth as sponsors of the project to add a kitchen onto the school. The school was in desperate need of a kitchen. In fact, the local priest in charge previously has had to organize the preparation and transport of food from outside of the school daily, using a motoconcho as means of transporting the meals. Because of NHS’s efforts and investment in a kitchen, the local Haitian kids will be able to enjoy freshly cooked meals.
In order to raise funds for this project, NHS hosted their annual flea market and charity concert, as well as other fundraisers. On Saturday, September 3rd, NHS members headed over to Proyecto las Américas to paint the already constructed kitchen. NHS also took advantage of this visit to interact with the children, take pictures, and even played soccer with them.
This upcoming year, the National Honor Society is looking forward to continuing their work with Proyecto Las Américas, with the next step being to paint a great biblical mural on the front of the school. In addition, many events will be hosted for the purpose of fundraising for the kitchen project. The said events will include the annual charity concert to be held in October, a flea market, and bake sales throughout the school year. NHS is looking forward to making a positive impact on the local in-and-out of school community this year!
