ISS BOOK FAIR - April 1-2, 2008
Reading is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. Reading will always be the heart of all knowledge. Passing on the love of reading starts early; therefore, we encourage all parents to set a time aside during the evening for reading. There will always be children who would rather play ball or watch TV, but it is not impossible to get them to read. Reading with your children and modeling good reading habits by reading for your own personal pleasure will help to motivate children as well as buying a book that interests them instead of a movie or a video game.
This year ISS is having a Book Fair to give parents the opportunity to purchase quality books for their children and to get them excited about reading. We have hundreds of books for children between the ages or 2 and 15. The sale will take place on Tuesday, April 1st and Wednesday, April 2nd, from 7:30 to 4:00 in the old library. Books are priced from 130 to 300 pesos, but most are 170 pesos or less. During the ISS Book Fair we also encourage students and parents to buy a book to donate to your child’s classroom.
ISS also has a number of used books that have been discarded from the old library available for parents to take in exchange for a donation toward purchasing more books for the library.
FERIA DEL LIBRO ISS – Abril 1-2, 2008
La lectura es uno de los más grandes regalos que podemos darles a nuestros hijos. Siempre séra la base de todos los conocimientos. Para cultivar ese amor a la lectura se debe empezar desde temprano; por eso animamos a todos los padres a fijar un tiempo durante la noche para la lectura. Siempre habrá niños que prefieren jugar pelota o ver la televisión, pero no es imposible motivarles a leer. La lectura diaria con sus hijos así como el que Ud. mismo lea por placer personal sirve como modelo que ayudará a motivarles a crear buenos hábitos de lectura. Esa misma motivación la recibirán de la compra de un libro que les anima a leer en lugar de una película o un vídeo juego.
Este año la ISS tendrá una Feria del Libro que les dará a los padres la oportunidad de comprar libros de calidad para sus hijos y así entusiasmarlos por la lectura. Tenemos cientos de libros para niños entre 2 y 15 años. La venta se llevará a cabo el martes 1ero de abril y el miércoles 2 de abril, de 7:30 a 4:00 en la antigua biblioteca. Los libros varían en precio de 130 a 300 pesos, pero la mayoría cuesta 170 pesos o menos. Durante la Feria del Libro de la ISS también animamos a los estudiantes y padres de familia a comprar un libro para donarlo a la clase de su hijo.
ISS también tiene una serie de libros usados que han sido descartados de la antigua biblioteca y están a disposición de los padres a cambio de una donación para la compra de más libros para la biblioteca.

I would like to thank all of the parents that attended the General Assembly on Feb. 26th. For those parents that could not attend, information about the new ISS Pre-Registration, Registration, Admission and School Fees for 2008-2009 is available on the ISS website (www.issosua.com). It is vitally important that all parents complete the Pre-Registration Process during the month of March to ensure that your child/ren has/have a guaranteed spot in the classroom next year. The ISS Registration Policy clearly establishes priorities for the registration process and those parents who chose not to pre-register their children could potentially lose their spot to a new admission. I personally am amazed at the number of new admission cases that have contacted ISS during the last months and hope that all ISS members take the appropriate steps toward registration and take advantage of the discounts offered during the month of March.
Upcoming events:
• March 7 – 3:00-6:00 pm : International Day
• March 12 – 2:15 pm : ISS Anniversary / Inauguration Celebration
• March 15-23 – Semana Santa (holidays)
On International Day (Mar. 7) students will be encouraged to dress in the colors of the countries of their origin and to stay after school to participate in the celebration. Activities include the traditional country presentations (culture and cuisine) and games and events. We sincerely hope that parents and students will sign-up and enjoy the celebration of our diversity.
On March 12, 2008, ISS will be honoring its Founding Members and celebrating its 19th anniversary since its conception. In addition, ISS will be celebrating the inauguration of the new ISS Library-Media/Administrative Center.
Quiero dar las gracias a todos los padres que asistieron a la Asamblea General del 26 de Febrero. Para aquellos padres que no pudieron asistir, la información acerca de las nuevas políticas de Pre-Registro, Registro, Admisión y las Pagos Escolares para 2008-2009 está disponible en el sitio web de la ISS (www.issosua.com). Es muy importante que todos los padres hagan el proceso de Pre-Registro durante el mes de Marzo para asegurar que su hijo/s ha/han garantizado su cupo en el salón de clases el próximo año. En la nueva política de Registración de la ISS se establecen claramente las prioridades para el proceso de inscripción y desafortunadamente, los padres que toman la decision de no pre-registrar a sus hijos, podrían perder su cupo para el siguiente año escolar. Personalmente, estoy sorprendido por el número de nuevos casos que estan solicitando admisión durante los últimos meses y esperamos que todos los miembros de la ISS tomen las medidas apropiadas para completar el proceso de inscripción y que se aprovechen los descuentos ofrecidos en el mes de Marzo.

• Marzo 12 – 2:15 pm : ISS aniversario / Inauguración celebración.

En el Día Internacional (marzo 7), esperarmos que los estudiantes se animaran a vestirse en los colores de sus países de origen y de quedarse después de la escuela para participar en la celebración. Las actividades incluyen las tradicionales presentaciones de los países (la cultura y la cocina), juegos y eventos especiales. Esperamos sinceramente que los padres y estudiantes se participan y disfruten de la celebración de nuestra diversidad.
El 12 de marzo de 2008 ISS estara celebrando su 19 aniversario desde su concepción y honora sus Miembros Fundadores. Además, estaremos celebrando la inauguración del nuevo Centro Administrativo /Biblioteca-Media de ISS.
