School Community
The International School of Sosúa (ISS) is a private,
coeducational, college preparatory school enrolling 187 students
from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Over 20 different nationalities
are represented within our international student body including
students from North, South, and Central America, Europe, and
the Caribbean. The school’s 10 acre campus is set in a
beautifully landscaped, rural location. Sosúa is small
tourist based community that boasts sandy beaches, aquatic sports,
recreational activities, and many fine hotels and restaurants.
History
ISS earned AdvancED (formerly known as SACS) accreditation and
the right to grant US High School Diplomas in the year 2001.
Since that time, ISS has graduated a total of 24 Seniors, all
of which have gone on to perform post secondary studies at
renowned universities and institutions throughout the world.
Faculty
ISS boasts a faculty of 21 fully
certified foreign teachers involved in instruction and leadership
in English as well as
five host country teachers involved in instruction and leadership
in Spanish. ISS’s teachers are recruited from countries
all around the world including the Americas and Europe.
Facilities
Facilities include: 19 classrooms, 1 computer lab with 19 computers,
1 library with eight thousand volumes and 6 computers for research
purposes, one science lab, an art studio, a music room, a cafeteria,
an open air multipurpose athletic surface and a soccer field.
Curriculum
ISS has developed a curriculum and program of study based upon
US Standards and Benchmarks. In addition, courses have been added
to ensure that students have the opportunity to receive dual
diplomas (US and Dominican).
Graduation Requirements
Students must earn 24 credits (1 credit [Carnegie Unit] = 130
hours of instruction) between Grades 9 and 12 to achieve the
US High School Diploma by completing a program of study that
meets the following requirements:

In order to graduate with
the Dominican High School Diploma, students must meet the above
requirements
as well as successfully complete four years of Social Studies/Civics
in Spanish as well as the mandatory National Standardized Tests, “Pruebas
Nacionales” in Grades 8 and 12.
All ISS students are also required to complete 60 hours of community
service and the Independent Senior Project.
Extra-Curricular Student Activities
ISS believes in the development of the whole child. Extra-curricular
activities include: Community Service Club, Model United Nations,
Student Council, Yearbook, Musical, Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball,
Arts and Craft Club, Drama Club, Spanish as Second Language Club
and Homework Club.
Grading Scale
Students are evaluated using a percent system and letter grades.
ISS does not calculate GPA nor provides class rankings.

Student Achievement
The class of 2008 will be the International School
of Sosua’s
6th graduating class. The average class size of the graduating
class since the inaugural group has been five students. The group
of Seniors 2008 represents our largest graduating class with
thirteen students.

Note – Seniors 2008 results do not reflect
results after June 2007.

In keeping with the international character of our school, ISS
graduates are presently attending universities, colleges and
