Vision Building Process
ISS Vision
ISS will be the leading educational center in the Caribbean region
within the next five years.
Mission
ISS affords the international community on the North Coast of
the Dominican Republic the opportunity to enroll their children
in a secular, co-educational and multicultural school where
students can complete a program of study that leads to a US
High School Diploma and/or a Dominican “Bachillerato”.
The ISS curriculum stresses the development of basic skills
(reading, writing and arithmetic) as well as 21st century learning
skills that aid students to develop into contributing and thriving
global citizens.
ISS Beliefs
ISS believes that:
• student learning and the best interests of the children are the
foremost concerns of all stakeholders and therefore guide the
decision making processes at the school;
• education is a shared responsibility between the home and the
school;
• effective communication between all stakeholders facilitates
the learning process;
• all community members are accountable for their actions and personal
responsibilities and must abide by the ISS Code of Conduct;
• a safe and nurturing environment fosters learning;
• all children learn differently; therefore,
• teachers must use a variety of instructional strategies to engage
and motivate students to learn
• teachers must use a variety of assessment strategies that permit
students frequent opportunities to demonstrate their learning
ISS Expectations for Student Learning
• All students will read fluently and demonstrate higher levels
of comprehension and thinking as they move through the grade
levels;
• All students will be able to communicate their ideas orally and
in written form;
• All students will be competent in basic arithmetic and mental
math;
•
All students will demonstrate “bilingualism”;
• All students will demonstrate the ability to work independently
and in teams to achieve goals and to solve problems;
• All students will be able to perform research and use technology
to synthesize and analyze information from a variety of sources;
Note – ISS
firmly believes that students who master these expectations
for learning will be adequately knowledgeable and
equipped to make informed judgements and to become exemplary
citizens and moral decision makers.

Visión
ISS será el principal centro de educación en la
región del Caribe en los próximos cinco años.
Misión
ISS le ofrece a la comunidad internacional de la costa norte
de la República Dominicana la oportunidad de inscribir
a sus hijos en una escuela laica, co-educativa y multicultural
donde los estudiantes pueden completar un programa de estudio
que conduce a un Diploma de la Escuela Secundaria de EE.UU.
y / o el diploma de "Bachiller" dominicano. El currículo
de la ISS destaca el desarrollo de habilidades básicas
(lectura, escritura y cálculo), así como las
habilidades de aprendizaje del siglo 21 para ayudar a los estudiantes
a desarrollarse y convertirse en ciudadanos globales exitosos
que contribuyen a la sociedad.
Creencias de ISS
ISS considera que:

El aprendizaje y el beneficio de los estudiantes son la principal
preocupación de todas las partes interesadas y, por lo
tanto, orienta el proceso de toma de decisiones de la escuela;
•
La educación es una responsabilidad compartida entre el
hogar y la escuela;
•
Una comunicación eficaz entre todos los interesados facilita
el proceso de aprendizaje;
•
Todos los miembros de la comunidad son responsables de sus acciones
y responsabilidades personales y deben acatar el Código
de Conducta de la ISS;
• Un ambiente seguro fomenta el aprendizaje;
•
Como todos los niños aprenden de maneras diferentes:
•
Los maestros deben usar una variedad de estrategias de instrucción
para interesar y motivar a los estudiantes a aprender.
•
Los maestros deben usar una variedad de estrategias de evaluación
que les brinden a los estudiantes oportunidades frecuentes para
demostrar su conocimiento.
Expectativas de ISS en cuanto al aprendizaje de los estudiantes
•
Todos los estudiantes leerán con fluidez y demostrarán
un mayor nivel de comprensión y pensamiento a medida que
pasan a través de los niveles de grado;
•
Todos los estudiantes serán capaces de comunicar sus ideas
de forma oral y por escrito;
•
Todos los estudiantes serán competentes en aritmética
básica y matemáticas mental;
•
Todos los estudiantes demostrarán "bilingüismo";
•
Todos los estudiantes demostrarán su habilidad para trabajar
independientemente y en equipo para alcanzar metas y resolver
problemas;
•
Todos los estudiantes serán capaces de realizar investigaciones
y podrán usar la tecnología para sintetizar y analizar
información de diversas fuentes;
Nota: ISS cree
muy firmemente que los estudiantes que dominen estas expectativas
para el aprendizaje estarán debidamente
informados y preparados para hacer juicios y llegar a ser ciudadanos
ejemplares que hacen buenas decisiones morales.
