Dear ISS Community,
It is really hard to believe that we are already heading into our Winter Break. I would like to thank all the community for their tremendous efforts to ensure a highly successful first half of the year. As I returned from the AdvancED Latin America Administrators’ conference, I reflected on the rich professional dialogue and trendsetting presentations I was immersed in with other Directors throughout the Americas. One theme definitely stood out in my reflections, ISS is most certainly progressing towards providing a robust 21st Century education.
Our Secondary students are thriving with the Block Schedule format and the Project Based Service Leaning groups have been providing extremely positive and meaningful support both locally and globally. Additionally, the after school reinforcement classes have provided extra academic support for our students, and, on the whole, student results have improved. Thank you to Ms. Tagle and the secondary teachers for providing a rigorous and rich learning experience for our students.
In the Elementary School, we have also received a great deal of positive feedback regarding the extra support via reinforcement classes and our new standards based report card. Thank you to Ms. Howe and the elementary school teachers for taking on these endeavors. Many parents have shared their appreciation for how clear and detailed the new report cards are. The level of detail and acute understanding of student progress takes a tremendous amount of effort on behalf of the teachers and it has focused and enhanced their delivery of curriculum. Subsequently, teachers have been acutely aware of, and better prepared to meet, individual needs of each child. Ultimately, this ensures that each child’s educational experience continues to improve.
While we are pleased with our initial successes at both levels, great schools are always looking for continuous improvement. As such, we will continue to evaluate and implement practices to enhance teaching and learning and the whole educational experience at ISS.
I would be remiss if I did not take this moment to thank our amazing Parent Support Group (PSG). The PSG works diligently and positively to create activities and special events to complement the academic program and to enhance the school’s sense of community. Thank you very much to all parents who have supported us thus far and, in particular, to our PSG President, Ms. Diana Zarzosa, and Vice President, Ms. DeeDee Law, for the countless hours they have put in to organize our successful Fun Fair and Santa's Workshop events. One final special parent thank you goes to Ms. Kohar Avakian who played an instrumental role (pardon the pun) in our highly successful Rock Concert.
Again, thank you for a wonderful first half of the year. I wish you and your family the very best during this festive season. - Mr. Colin Brown, Director
